Hatch Show Print Announces Second Annual Moonlightin’ Exhibit In Haley Gallery

November 11, 2015

Exhibit Opens Saturday, November 14

NASHVILLE, Tenn., November 11, 2015— Hatch Show Print and Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery are proud to present Moonlightin’, a special exhibit featuring works created by the legendary letterpress print shop’s designer-printers while off the clock. The artists were given carte blanche to create outside of the normal confines of their daily Hatch Show Print duties, while referencing the shop’s classic letterpress style. Works vary in size and format, with prices starting at $50. The show will run from Saturday, Nov. 14 to Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016. Patrons will have an opportunity to meet the artists during Art Crawl from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5.

The work on display represents the experience and backgrounds of the artists, including the varied processes that fall under the general term of printmaking, along with illustration, photography and book arts. By day, the artists turn out the hundreds of show posters Hatch Show Print designs and produces each year. By night, their skills are put to work in personal, creative endeavors. This show offers the artists an opportunity to share the work they pursue after hours, and that is inspired or influenced in some way by their daily work in the shop.

Moonlightin’ is a very special exhibit to us,” said Mark DeLelys, director of merchandising and retail development, “because it allows the artists to exhibit work that showcases their own skills and personal voice, while utilizing the skills they hone during their work days at Hatch Show Print.”

For the opening reception, Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery will offer visitors complimentary wine and small bites, accompanied by a pedal steel guitar performance by the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Bob Kramer. The following artists will be in attendance to discuss their work: Celene Aubry, Jennifer Bronstein, Carl Carbonell, Devin Goebel, Alex MacAskill, Heather Moulder, Amber Richards, and Cory Wasnewsky.

About Hatch Show Print

Founded by brothers Charles and Herbert Hatch, Hatch Show Print opened in Nashville in 1879. For much of the twentieth century, the shop’s vibrant posters served as a leading advertising medium for Southern entertainment, and included work for many members of the Grand Ole Opry such as Bill Monroe, Minnie Pearl, and Ernest Tubb, and for rock & roll greats such as Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry. Thousands of posters and billboard-size advertisements were printed for traveling vaudeville and minstrel shows, circuses, and carnivals barnstorming across the country. In 1992, Hatch Show Print became a historic property of the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum. Today, Hatch Show Print is a thriving letterpress poster and design shop in downtown Nashville, with seven full-time designer-printers on staff. The shop creates and prints 500 to 600 poster jobs every year, and the client list ranges from Mumford & Sons to Willie Nelson, and includes brands such as Fossil, Taschen, and the U.S. Postal Service.
