Did you know? To create the “Eyes of Hatch” monoprint art, master printer Jim Sherraden carved the eyes of many shop favorites from advertising posters through the decades, from Minnie Pearl to George Washington, to Silas Green’s Big Woman.
Jim then prints these (mostly linoleum) cuts individually, pieces the prints together into quilts of eyes, adds more ink by hand, with a brayer and palette knife, to the printwork, stopping only when he feels the quilt has the right texture, dimension, and color. The finished quilts are on view in Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery, located just across the lobby from where they are printed. Check them out on your next visit, and “see” how many eyes you recognize.
