A group of interns working

'Preservation through Education'

Internships

At Hatch Show Print we offer four different paid internship sessions throughout the calendar year, 6 or 8 weeks in length that will give participants a hands-on, in-depth look into a production letterpress design and print shop. We also offer a brief 2-week unpaid professional development program, geared toward working professionals interested in a taste of letterpress printing. We are able to accept up to four interns per session. These positions are open to both students and non-students.

In each internship session, participants are taught the process of traditional letterpress printing from the ground up. Letterpress printing experience is not required. Interns begin by learning about the wood and metal type in our collection through redistributing type from completed poster jobs. Moving forward, instruction turns to the basics of typesetting, letterpress poster design, and the printing process. Interns have the unique opportunity to work with our extensive collection of type and imagery to design and print custom letterpress posters for real clients. Interns are an integral part of our shop. The internship is first and foremost an educational opportunity. Completing an internship at Hatch Show Print does not lead to full-time employment.

Housing, meals and transportation are the responsibility of the intern. If help is needed to find housing, we are happy to give some guidance.

Hatch Show Print student intern applicants may apply for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s Field Forward program. Field Forward is a living and relocation stipend—offered to select candidates in addition to the paid internship—that supports students who identify as traditionally underrepresented in cultural arts careers and students with demonstrated financial need. More information about Field Forward is available here.
