David Wolske: Synæsthetica

Hailing from Indiana, Wolske visited Nashville’s historic print shop earlier this year to create his Synæsthetica series using some of the biggest wood type font in the shop’s collection. By employing larger-than-life letterforms and applying his twenty-first-century sensibilities, Wolske arranged the layers to create dynamic interactions of color and shape, engaging the viewer in a vivid dialogue with the vibrant hues and energetic geometry..

Hatch Show Print and Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery proudly presented a new collaborative work by Master Printer Jim Sherraden and guest artist Jon Langford, celebrating the release of Rhino Records’ Trio: Farther Along, a double-LP set of all the newly remastered bonus material from the Complete Trio Collection by Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris.
JIM SHERRADEN: PAPER QUILTS

Sherraden is influenced by the rich tradition of pattern and decoration found in artwork ranging from Mediterranean tiles to Southwestern American textiles, from Oriental rugs to his own family's quilts. Using woodblocks he has carved and utilized since the 1980’s, he creates the paper quilts from the artwork which “falls to the floor.”

By day, they turn out the hundreds of show posters Hatch Show Print is called upon to design and produce each year. By night, their creative skills are put to work in personal endeavors. The artists of Hatch Show Print shared the work they pursue after hours, and that is inspired or influenced in some way by their daily work in the shop.

Artist Jon Langford, creator of the artwork for the exhibition Dylan, Cash, and the Nashville Cats: A New Music City exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame® and Museum, collaborated with Hatch Show Print's Jim Sherraden on a limited edition print which will be offered for sale in Hatch Show Print's Haley Gallery.
Additionally, the Haley Gallery will feature new prints and paintings by Langford and new monoprints by Sherraden.

Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery offers visitors a comprehensive look at the work of Hatch Show Print’s master printer in a new installation Jim Sherraden: Personal Woodcuts featuring his woodcut prints dating from the beginning of Sherraden’s 30-year career as a printmaker up to recent multimedia interpretations.

TYPES OF BUGS: BUGS OF TYPE: LETTERBUGS™ BY BILL MORAN OF HAMILTON WOOD & TYPE PRINTING MUSEUM

Each Letterbug ™ is hand-printed using type manufactured by Hamilton and is part of that museum's collection of over 1.5 million pieces of wood type; the fine details completing each print come from much smaller metal type, or hand-inking, by Bill, creating unique effects on every print. The prints are an homage to the unique strata that insects and type occupy in their respective kingdoms.
THE NATIONAL POSTER RETROSPECTICUS

The National Poster Retrospecticus stopped in Nashville on Saturday, May 3, bringing 300 gig-posters from across the United States, and showcasing over 90 of the most prominent poster designers in the country. The show included heavy hitting designers like Aaron Draplin, Daniel Danger and Aesthetic Apparatus, as well as some of Hatch Show Print's work.
